Baloo the Bear
The fictional character, Baloo the Bear, featured as a sleepy old grey mentor of Mowgli in the Walt Disney animated classic tale, ‘The Jungle Book’ (based on the book of the same name by Rudyard Kipling published on October 18, 1967). Baloo the Bear became an instant animated celebrity when Philip Harris, the performer who voiced him, sang the popular song entitled, ‘The Bare Necessities'. In ‘The Jungle Book 2’, Baloo appears again, this time with John Goodman's voice behind him. The movie was released in France on February 5, 2003, and in the United States on February 14, 2003.
Baloo is a carefree, joyful bear, and an ever-loyal friend. Baloo’s main concerns are having a fine tree for his back scratching, a suitable place for his sleep, and always being there whenever his friends need him. Baloo, who is also a mentor, is always challenged by the objections of his pupil, Mowgli.
Baloo the Bear is a carefree and fun-loving character who avoids responsibility. This description of the character also appears in three of Walt Disney’s animated television series: ‘TaleSpin’ aired in 1990 as a pilot, ‘Jungle Clubs’ in 1996 as a rookie and 'Disney’s House of Mouse’ in 2001, as a visitor. Baloo also appears in the animated special, ‘Tale Spin: Plunder and Lighting', the two-hour television special series that featured Ed Gilbert as the voice of Baloo. He also performs a cameo role in the Disney on Ice touring show and in Pixar’s computer-animated movie, ‘The Incredibles’ in a Magic Kingdom Adventure.
