Teddy Bears: Famous Bears in the media (Captain Blue Bear)
Blue Bear is one of the more famous teddy bears. His name is derived from the famous German TV puppet named ‘Käpt'n Blaubär,’ which means ‘Captain Blue Bear,’ like a blue seaman teddy bear who often tells his niece and two nephews (three small bears coloured green, red, and yellow) tall stories that are less than truthful. These charming bears can be seen on ‘Sendung mit der Maus’ (‘Program With the Mouse’), a half-hour entertaining show for little children that contains stories about things that can be seen every day (e.g. how paper is made) and also stories to laugh about. Children and even grown-ups love and appreciate these bears for they are all so sweet and adorable. In addition, Käpt'n Blaubär has his own television show which can be seen every Sunday morning at 11:00 am on ARD TV. This show is distributed by the ‘Käpt'n-Blaubär-Club.’
In 1991, Captain Blue Bear appeared for the very first time on German television. Then in October 1993, the Captain Blue Bear Club started, and in that same year Blue Bear got his own show with Hein Blod. In 1998, in the wake of his growing popularity, a stamp of Captain Blue Bear was produced by the German Post.
This past spring, Walter Moers published his book ‘The 13 and half lives of Captain Blue Bear,’ which has become a great success and a national bestseller in Germany. The cartoon movie ‘Käpt'n Blaubär’ which hit German theatres on December 16, 1999, is thought by many to be the high point of Captain Blue Bear’s career.
